Poet Hyangji Lee was born in Tongyoung, Korea in 1942, graduated from Pusan National University in 1967. She started her literary career by publishing in Monthly Literature in 1989 and won the Hyeondaesi Jakpumsang prize for the best poems of the year in 2003. Her collections of poems include A Cricket in Parentheses (Hyeondae Segye Publishing Co., 1992), The Sound of the Wind in Gujolri (Segyesa Publishing Co., 1995), An Electric Wire in front of My Eyes(Cheonnyeon-ui-sijak Publishing Co., 2003), and a collection of poems about mountains entitled The Way Water Goes and the Ways the Wind Goes (Nanam Publishing Co., 2001). Her joint writings about mountains are The Kumgang Mountain Calls (Chosun Daily Newspaper Publishing Co., 1998), The Baekdu Mountains, I Walk on the Map (Changhae Publishing Co., 2001), and Mountain, Mountain!(Changhae Publishing Co., 2001).
